In the late 70s and early 80s, there was a public pressure from the affluent class who wanted to fly on their own. Hence came a new category of aircraft known as microlight or ultralight aircraft, which was a slow-flying airplane quite free from strict regulation.
But different countries have their different rules as to how much weight and how small a size constitutes what we can classify under the category of an ultralight aircraft in that particular country.
